Hi,

The display without would be one of the Esys devices. The cheapest is the
Esys 12 at #875.00.

Hello,
I will also be checking it out. It would be interesting to find out
whether
they'll have a display without unit, and, if, so, the price?

well i must say windows 7 is far better than windows ce 6 and if the
size
of it is like a braille sense or braille note 32 one could carry it around
and use programms they are used to using. it's just the price tag of the
braille display of course but you would have everything with it like being
able to use the web much better and read say kindle books you could on the
go connect it to your mobile phone with your hotspot so i must admit a
real
huge step forward and for the braille users like myself terific. i just
hope
it does not die off like the pacmate. one thing is because people are not
in
employment as much now people will have to fund this thing for themselves
so, i wonder if there is a way to pay for it say every month. i do take
the
point to what pele says about just being able to switch on and use it.
will
really look forward to your podcast on it steve which i am sure you will
do.
so must go and win a chess tournament then now.

Hi John,

Indeed you could. But you'd probably still pay the same. There are
not
many 32-cell displays under two grand I don't think. Then you'd have
to
get
the PC as well. Then you'd have two devices to carry about. I really
think
this has potential.

As Mike Townsend pointed out in another context on last night's In
Touch,
all of these machines are way behind the curve in terms of the
mainstream
software they run, so much so that many modern websites are simply not
usable to them. Even the new Euro Braille model which Steve Nutt is
about
to stock is only running windows 7. While i agree with those who've
said
that the HIMS products are probably currently the best, the person who
sold
me my U2 Mini actually said that he couldn't envisage any serious web
user
ever using one of these machines because the browser is just not up to
it
and the process is incredibly slow.

My Braille-Sense 18 is pretty hammered.
Can anybody tell me if there is a better unit out there?
I need it to do the same kind of stuff but better web access and
being
able to use the BBC web site more fully would be nice.
Also being able to click on a LINK in an email and going directly
to
the
web site would also be wonderful.
Most of the time even if I can open the email in the web browser
it
just
freezes.
