If I interpret your message correctly the site you speak of is using
Terminal Services to distribute access to applications centrally to
Windows PCs. This is a kind of remote connection that allows you to
access a program running remotely on another PC as if you were setting
at it locally. This is somewhat similar to Remote Desktop feature in
Windows XP Pro.

If this is correct, JAWS can be made to work with this kind of setup but
it would first need to be a JAWS professional and it would also have to
be authorised for Remote Access features. Once you have this you would
then need to install some components on the server that is providing the
centralised resource and JAWS would also be installed on the client
computer as well. The two JAWS then communicate by exchanging text
packets between them with all the main processing being done at the
client end which means that the load on the server will be very minimal.

This is a complex topic and no doubt you may need more information than
I can provide here, you may also want to let the IT people have some
intormation. This information is contained in the JAWS help system
under the topic "Remote Access"

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Subject: [access-uk] terminal servers and jaws

hi all, not sure if this might be a bit too in depth for this list!
smile.
but i've just been offered a job. it's call centre based, and to use the

phrase i was told "the system runs off a terminal server". so obviously

being a jaws and braille display user, i want to know if there are ways
round this as i assume it's a problem. feel free to contact me off list
if
necessary.
