Hi Simon.

Why, the very provider I use *smile*. Go to www.fastmail.fm, sign up for one
of their excellent individual packages and enjoy.

All the best, Ibrahim.

do you happen to know of any such providers?
as that would also solve the problem with the laptop, as well as the phone
one.

    Hi Simon.

You'll need to speak to O2 and find out their server access details and
while your at it ask them whether they support email sending while abroad.
This is one of the reasons people who take their email seriously use a
dedicated email provider which allows for access anywhere in the world, full
IMAP, POP3 and authenticated SMTP access not to mention customer service that
actually can help. ISP provided email is just a fad and should never be taken
seriously.

All the best and good luck with your hunt.

have just tried that, and can't get any useful info out of NTL's so
called technical support, and I have no idea what the relay server is for O2.
also, assuming I can get that info, will that still work, when I am
abroad, and going through a different network provider? judging from the way
these servers seem to be restrictively setup, I would say probably not.

        Hi Simon.

What you are experiencing is an authentication issue. NTL like most
internet service providers only allow you to send email through their own SMTP
server while using their own IP address block as in from your own connection at
home. The first thing to do is to try to find out from NTL's technical support
team whether they offer authenticated SMTP access. If they don't, you'll need
to find the SMTP server that relays mail on behalf of your network which you
can then use for sending emails from your handset.

        All the best, Ibrahim.

          hello list,
have quite recently got my e-mail to work on my mobile phone, but am
having a rather strange, and extremely annoying problem.
I can receive e-mails perfectly, no matter what access point I am
using, but if I try to send any, and use any of the access points I would use
whilst out or away from home, ntl's out going e-mail server won't have it, but
if I use my own wireless access point, which is connected to my ntl internet,
the e-mails go with no problems at all.
at first, I thought it was something to do with the phone, but I had
exactly the same problem with my laptop, when I took it somewhere else, so was
on a different connection, rather than my direct ntl one, from which, just like
with the phone, I can send e-mails with the laptop with no problems. yet again,
when the laptop was working with a different connection, I could receive my
e-mail with no problem, but couldn't send any at all. this suggest to me, that
it is an issue with the actual ntl server, rather than with my phone and
laptop.
has anyone else had the same, or any similar problems, and, the
$64000 question, has anyone found a way round this problem?

          Simon
