thanks Jim. yes it does seem that dixons made a mistake with saying the 
Sonus doesn't have a headphone jack.

Hi.  a friend of mine is interested in purchasing a Sonus 1 XT but according
to the dixons site from where you can get this radio, there is no headphone
socket.  I know the pure evoke 1 does have a headphone socket and thought
the Sonus 1 did as well.
