We've all been there, Barrie! (smile).
When we went on our cruise last year the ship's wi-fi was horrendously
expensive and it made me smile that when passengers got off the boat they all
raced to the nearest café which offered free wi-fi!

This might, in fact, Barrie, be the simplest solution as I do want her to have
some access to texts and calls, but not in the apartment where she is being
forced to spend her half term holiday. I thought I was going to have to use the

One idea that could restrict your imaginary girl is that she could be in an
area were she has no or very limited signal. The holiday home I go to most
years is a time warp village and the only place I can get a phone signal is up
in a corner of the attic, and that is intermittent. Using data is nigh
impossible.

Not all packages come with adata allowance or much of one so you could run out
easily. Also, finance could be an issue to prevent the services from working
due to lack of data.

story where a youngster is in a house without wi-fi. Would she be

Radio stations?
YouTube?
Netflix?
I guess we should presume she has a data package. But I know that
when my wi-fi is down, there are some services I can’t reach, like
Seven Little Words.
