I went to what I think was the first one that you organised. In the Russell
Hotel, Russell Square, London. Am I right in thinking it was 1995?

Speaking as another dealer, and the one who started Sight Village off many
years ago, I'm 100% in agreement with you Steve.
The idea at the time was to have one seriously major national exhibition,
which would also attract foreign manufacturers to come and support their
dealers over here. This also helped these manufacturers appreciate the
market over here and what customers were looking for.
Birmingham was an ideal location, as it was fairly central, and without the
London prices, plus had a quite well served international airport.

From an exhibitor's point of view, I think Sight Village is really just a
cash cow now for QAC. Shame as it started out really good.
Exhibitors get quite a raw deal considering they pay over 100 quid for a
table and not even water is free let alone lunch. You're pretty much on
your own as a dealer.
I also think there are too many all over the country now which has the
effect of thinning down attendance at all of them.
Just my opinion of course.

I knew about it from our chess association.
as I said on the last post it was hard finding what was there.
it was the renasons hotel black friars road.
it was so expensive so I put the sat nav on about just afer one pm and
walked back to piccadilly station.
not sure where it is all going with sight village a lot of stuff there is
all visual like magnifiers which of course is of no use to me.
it is difficult for dealers as well as the cost of having a stand is so high
now.
it is like our high streets
if the councils put down the rates smaller businesses would be able to stay
there rather than close down.
