hi wendy, i've a feeling the main reason for manufacturers using such packaging is probably to prevent the contents, or some of the contents mysteriously disappearing off the shelves! grin.

Carol I don't know whether anything can be done under the DDA about this, but it might be worth a try. Lots of goods come in sealed packaging which it is impossible to get into without cutting them open, so this might mean thatonce the packaging has been broken open the goods cannot be returned. Thesepacks are frustrating to everyone, not just us, and it might be worthcontacting manufacturers to ask them to pack things in openable boxes ratherthan sealed plastic which can't be recycled and adds to landfill waste. Just a few thoughts. I'm currently looking aroundfor my case for the Nokia 6630 but, as this phone has been discontinued, many of the suitable covers are now no longer available. In an attempt to find something appropriate, I have realised that, in a lot of cases, these(like so many other goods) are well packaged and not readily feelable. Yes,I could take something home and try it, and be sure to get a receipt with anassurance that I could return the product, but I don't really want to do this. When a shop worker does not wish to take items from their packages, Is thisreally anything I should expect (as a "reasonable adjustment" (under the DDA) as a blind person? I know headphones cannot be tried in shops, but I like at least to feel them, nevertheless! Has anyone felt strongly enough to insist the packaging is removed for inspection?
