I used to do as you directed, and then I tried sharing it as another lister
suggested, but the file was deemed unsafe to send.
So I looked at the notes in the Public folder, which directed me to select
the file I wanted to send and then right click on it.
I did this, and suddenly there was the option to create and copy a link
which I could then paste into an e-mail.
However, this option was not available just by pressing the context key - I
did have to actually right click on the file.

One way of doing this is by highlighting the file you want to share in your
Dropbox folder, then choose Copy Dropbox link from the context menu and then
share that link in an email or what have you.
