Hi amro Now, I am starting to get somewhere, thanks to you. You were correct; I only had the audible Download manager in my programs list. I do not really understand how I managed to get the Download Manager and missed out on getting the audible Manager at the same time. well, I have now got the Audible Manager installed. I suppose that until someone with experience points out something is missing you never know that you should have it in the first place. So thanks again. I could then go to the library section in the manager. To begin with nothing would play in the library, but that is because Audible did not prompt me to the fact that I should authorise the device (my PC) before I could play any books. I just hunted around the menus and stumbled across the authorisation and tried it - following authorisation - I am very pleased to say the book is playing out loud and clear. For some reason wMP also started up and at one stage I had two copies of the audio reading to me at the same time from different pages. I really did laugh out loud. Everything is sorted out now and I have read the JAWS list of key commands you told me about. I have managed to increase and decrease the volume and go forwards and backwards, although, rather strangely, pressing control K does not seem to set a book mark. How do I return to a bookmark once I have set it? I will read again the JAWS commands to see if I have missed some vital clues. I think you're looking in the wrong place all together. I take it you have already installed the Audible software? Go to Start menu>All Programs>Audible Manager submenu, and run the Audible Manager, not the Audible Download Manager. In Audible Manager you should find your library and the books you downloaded. I'm happy to help as much as I can no problems but yeah Audible support teem is quite good. I've tried them more than once by email and phone and they were always very helpful, and the people I spoke to were aware of Jaws and screen readers too. Hope that helps a bit and feel free to come back if you need more help! You mention a library, when I tab around the Audible Download Manager I do not find a library, but it does say 'downloads', so I enter this and it announces 'no files', then I tab around to something called 'downloads folder' and there I find my audible book - when I press enter on it I get a message saying "You have no programme associated with this file" and it tells me to "Create an association in the folders Options control panel? I am sorry to bother you with this again and after this question I will go away and contact Audible instead of using up your time. The import dialog is accessible alright over here. I'm using Jaws11 but I don't recall having any issues with this dialog using older versions of Jaws. I don't know but you could try using the Jaws cursor and see if that yields any results. One thing though, you don't need to import the programs you download; Audible Manager import them automatically. Is any of your Audible programs not showing in the Audible Manager library then? The import feature is used in cases like when you download on one computer then transfer the Audible programs to another computer to listen to them. When I go to the Audible download Manager it asks me if I want to import any books, so I press enter and then I can go no further as the 'ok' option is not visible to Jaws. I will keep reading the JAWS help pages, but I thought you might also have some advice. thanks for all the help so far. regards Andrew ----- Original Message ----- From: Amro Bilal To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, January 11, 2010 1:42 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: setting audio book markers Hi Andrew, You can use Audible Manager to listen to books instead of WMP. To set a bookmark in Audible Manager it's Control B. Audible Manager remembers the place in the book where you left off too. There's a section in the Jaws help files about using Audible Manager with Jaws; you'll find all you need in there. The Audible Manager topic comes under (Popular Applications with Jaws) book in the help files. Happy reading! How do I set a marker to return to the place where I finished my last listening session in a book? I am using Windows Media Player at the moment, but would be happy to use something else if setting markers is easier. I use Jaws.
