Actually, it’s control-F4, if you just want to close a document and not come
out of Word. Then you can open a new document. You can also use Control-F4 if
multiple documents are open. If you press Alt-F4 when more than one document
is open, you will close them all, which most of the time, you want of course.

That’s right, Steve. Not always but quite frequently when I press f4 to exit
the document, instead of asking me if I want to save my changes, it just saves
and closes.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 and installing Office 365, frequently, when
pressing f4 to close an amended document, the document is automatically saved
without me being asked.
Mostly, that’s fine but I can think of occasions when I may have made changes
which I’m not happy with and want to return to the document as it was
originally.
Does anyone else experience this and is there a way to ensure that I am asked
every time whether I want to save the changes to the document?
