Hi John,

One last try perhaps before Monday's call.

See below, but use the 192.168.2.1 address, since somehow
that appears to have set itself.

George.

9. I forgot my password, or the password prompt always
appears when I am saving settings to the
Router.
Reset the Router to factory default by pressing the Reset
button for 10 seconds and then releasing it. If you
are still getting prompted for a password when saving
settings, then perform the following steps:
1. Access the Router's web-based utility by going to
http://192.168.1.1 or the IP address of the Router.
Enter the default password admin, and click the
Administration => Management tab.
2. Enter a different password in the Router Password field,
and enter the same password in the second
field to confirm the password.
3. Click the Save Settings button.

hi John R. here

this is my problem, that address just throws an error 404
page can not be
found error.
but the other one, http://192.168.2.1
this gives me an user name and password window but I've
tried what the
manual says and it doesn't work maybe it's time to take this
further with
linksys

thanks

Hi John,

Leave the Username blank. The password is admin

Here's the relevant page.

George.

A. Open your web browser. Enter
http://192.168.1.1 in its
Address field. Press the Enter
key.
B. A password request screen will
appear. Leave the User name
field blank, and enter the
default password, admin, in
the Password field. (For added
security, you should later set a
new password, using the
Administration tab's
Management screen of the
Web-based Utility). Then click
the OK button.
C. The Web-based Utility will
appear with the Setup tab
selected. If requested by your
Internet Service Provider (ISP),
complete the Host Name and
Domain Name fields. (These
are usually requested by cable
ISPs.) Otherwise, leave them
blank.

Hi John,

What is the exact make and model of your router? Perhaps I
can track down an on-line manual. (Sorry if you've given it
before, but the thread's getting a bit long.)

It appears that IP address 192.168.2.1 is correct, and the
Username and Password should in theory be whatever the
manual says in the default. Have you tried Username admin
and left the Password blank? That's how my two Draytek Vigor
2600s were accessed.

But if we can track down a manual, it should be possible to
confirm or otherwise.

George.

hi everyone
thanks to those who are being pacient with me.
still I can't get around this.
no matter what I do no matter where I go in the run box or
internet explorer
open or internet explorer address bar, I get no where with:
http://192.168.1.1
I get the password and user name window come up when I use
the following:
http://192.168.2.1

and I'm only using 1 ruter so I dont know what's going on.
with the, 1.1, I get a delay then a message saying, the page
could not be
found. but with the 2.1, number, it asks me for a user name
and password
I've done what the manual says that don't work, I've tried
typing admin in
each box, I've tried using my internet ISP details but still
nothing. I've
even done a hard reset from the ruter hole point. but with
that there is a
delay then it goes back on to the internet

does anyone see a way out of this maze?

For what it's worth, the default username and password on
routers is
usually adnin, type these on the 2 edit fields when
prompted and see what
happens.
Hope this helps.

John - I don't know that you'd be able to actually
download that wizard,
but
there will probably be a FAQ or trouble shoot on the
website; I'm a bit
muddled regarding your router's installation, I thought
it was already
installed, but from your below message it now sounds like
your stuck part
way through the installation? -
