Yes indeed, Richard. The ideal would be if it could be taken up with Which?,
the Consumers Association.
I wonder if BCAB could get together with other IT related groups and raise the
issue?
Did I see the word "competition"? Where might that be, I wonder?

Yep george, and I bet that that argument is why many of us put up with other
aspects of the service we don't particularly like.
Roll on competition!
All the best,

Hi Matthew,
For many there is one major, major drawback with Virgin's router and your
suggestion. It's shockingly poor VPN Protocol means that if need to access a
Windows 2016 or above server, you have two choices. 1) Drop the security level
on the Server or 2) use the Virgin Router's setting with an external router.
This has been the subject of much discussion on one of the Virgin lists where
many users are remote workers, but Virgin just will not listen. Their attitude
almost seems to be, that if you want the fastest broadband available with fibre
direct to your house, then put up and shut up!

Hi Les and all,
I have an Asus RT-AC68U and I find the web interface for that to be fully
accessible. They did a router with eight Ethernet ports at one time - I think
it was the RT-AC87U? that is quite an old router now but presumably there will
be a comparable newer model.
I would tend to agree with others on here in that you get what you pay for with
routers, so a £35 router probably isn't going to be much of a step up from the
Virgin one - and compared to some ISP routers I've seen, I've found the Virgin
one pretty good for an entry level device!
If you're generally happy with the Virgin router and it's just the extra
Ethernet ports that you're after, I would instead spend that £35 on a good
quality switch. You should be able to get an 8-port gigabit switch for about
£30-40 which you could plug into one of the LAN ports of the Virgin router, and
then you would end up with 11 usable Ethernet ports!
Matthew

Thanks Steve, but the thick end of 350 Euros for the Draytek is a little steep
for me. I'm looking at the asus RT-AC51U at £35, oft touted as a fix for
Virgin's lousy router. The admin doesn't sound at all accessable though.

Hi,
I don't know of one with eight Ethernet ports, but my Draytek 2860N has 6.
I would go for the 286AC though, as it's newer than mine. They are superb >
routers, if a little expensive.
All the best

Can anyone recommend one? Preferably with an accessable web admin and > 8
ethernet ports, and that is known to work with Virgin's router.
Thanks.
