Yes, there is and it's even better than before.
Press the Windows key and you are immediately in the search box. The start
menu has become the search box as well.

Hi list, in previous versions of windows, in the search facility, one
could put a word or phrase in a particular search box, and the
computer would search for it. i can't find that there is a similar
box in windows seven. can someone advise. brian.
