HiI've got to say that this has happened to me twice. I have two machines both sporting wrongly named drives. My program drive in one is J and in the other H. I run many programs and as long as I make sure that the programs I'm installing are going into program files in the root drive (J or H) I have no problems. Of course it's annoying, but to reformat would just take me too long and as I've had no trouble with this arrangement in a year I don't feel the need to change at present. I suppose it might depend on which programs you load in but I use a fairly wide and large number of programs and haven't had a problem yet. My main annoyance is when using the Windows explorer, trying to remember to find the correct drive.

Hi Jackie,I think the only way is to reformat it. You can't reassign drive letters tothe primary drive.Lynn, don't leave it as is, otherwise I promise you will be in trouble longterm. Well, when Ian came to install JAWS, it wouldn't have any of it, so we had to get the guy back pretty quickly to format the machine again toallow us to have drive C as the primary. I don't know if this is the case with JAWS or any other programs now, butthat was our experience, so when the question was posted, we both said: "Ohdear" at the same time. But I do hope it isn't as drastic as having to format it again though. So, if I had 2 copies of windows, 1 on drive b and 1 on drive c, I could run a program from drive b and it would install to drive b, and the same thing with drive c. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, February 17, 2008 6:58 PM To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [access-uk] Re: question about the system's drive letterHi Chris,Actually, this is going to be a real problem, because some older programslook specifically for the C: drive. I think the only answer is to reformat, and pay more attention to the drive lettering <Smile>. By "active primary" I mean thatwhen you turn on your computer, it tries to boot from the first availablepartition, and of course if there's nothing on there, or nothing to indicate that an operating system exists, then it'll just stop dead and probably display an error message. Only sighted assistance could get you out of this trouble. Hope that helps. Lyn & Twinny wrote:Hi list, I recently re-installed my OS and for some strange unknown reason the letters of my systems and my backup drives were interchanged. Therefore windows is now installed on D and my backup drive became my C drive. I would like to know whether or not this is a major problem and, if this is, is there a way to change my system's drive back to C without having to re-install windows all over again? I must say that so far, everything is working perfectly but some people tell me that I could have problems and others say I should not worry about it. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
