George.

Personally I would recommend Dell as a make.

I have bought a number of laptops from:

http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk

It is still possible to buy Windows XP machines from and they are absolutely bullet proof. They are also great for running Vinux (the Visually impaired targeted distro of Linux).

Ebuyer seems to be one of the cheapest sites around at the moment for full spec laptops and it's possible to buy machines from them with 6 megs of RAM or more, which is an advantage for us because of the extra overhead of running a screen-reader.

Unless you've won the lottery, Andy, I'd be inclined to suggest you
place an upper limit on cost.
