Hi Terry and Richard That is also my understanding, but I don't know hand on heart what is strictly legitimate. I've got a stamp that I use for signing letters and other documents, but write my name on cheques to avoid any complications. Terry, I think there's a difference between whether a stamp is lawful, and whether a bank will accept it. I understood that a stamp could be used as a person's mode of signature, but my experience is that, if banks are prepared to accept a stamp, they require you to indemnify them against any loss arising from the unauthorised use of the stamp. That would mean that, if you used a stamp, and someone stole it and misused it, you might be liable for whatever had been signed for with the stamp. Perhaps better to learn how to do a unique cross? Hi everyone. I wonder if somone could kindly assist me with the following question from a friend based in India. He says: "I am part of a group who is trying to ensure equal access to banks for blind people in India. One problem we face is the inconsistancy of a signature. One way around this is to use a stamp. I believe this is permitted under UK law. Is this correct? I ask since the banks here are worried about some one being able to copy the signature stamp and defrauding them and or the customer." So does UK law permit the use of stamp based signatures. I've only been blind all my life and frankly don't have a clue. Any help/comments appreciated. Terry Cllasper.
