hi steve,
to be honest what you think regarding the cost of developing the app is
irrelevant as you don't know how complexed the job was, and we wasn't seen
coming because we didn't just jump at the first quote given and had quotes and
discussions with several companies before going with the one we used.
i also don't like that you are implying that i am lying about the cost, as i
treat both you and everyone else on this list respectfully and don't assume
they are lying about something just because i can't understand why something
would cost so much.

hi Steve,
well regardless of what you think that is exactly what it cost as i know to
the penny how much the project cost Calibre.

Pete,
I’m sorry I don’t believe it costs hundreds of thousands to produce an
Android or iOS app. Tens maybe at most, but certainly not hundreds.

hi steve,
it wasn't a case of calibre trying to re-invent the wheel, but it was a case
of trying to have an app made that was easy to use for everyone and
controlling the cost of doing it.
it wasn't a case of spending a few thousand, or even tens of thousands, it
cost in the hundreds of thousands to develop the one app and would have
cost double that to produce individual apps for both Apple and Android.
it's a very complicated system it has to interact with and to be able to
stream the books the publishers had to be satisfied as to the strength of
the systems ability to prevent piracy.
as you know i'm not really an android user i have only dabled with it, but
from what i did on it android users surely use similar finger flicks,
swipes, and taps don't they?.
as i said in another message you don't have to turn off VoiceOver or
TalkBack to use the app they are there still in the background.
the vast majority of Calibre users are not advanced users of technology and
it needed to be made so that even a novice could use it.
i'd love to know what sort of problems people have using the app, but i
really find it hard to understand how once they have read the instructions
it doesn't become very obvious and easy to use.
if the android commands have changed from doing flicks, swipes, and taps if
you let me know what the commands are that are different from these then i
can speak to calibre about it.
all suggestions as to how to make the app easier and friendlier to use are
welcome as Calibre want to have an app that is as easy as possible to use
for everyone.
