hi steve,
it wasn't a case of calibre trying to re-invent the wheel, but it was a case of
trying to have an app made that was easy to use for everyone and controlling
the cost of doing it.
it wasn't a case of spending a few thousand, or even tens of thousands, it cost
in the hundreds of thousands to develop the one app and would have cost
double that to produce individual apps for both Apple and Android.
it's a very complicated system it has to interact with and to be able to stream
the books the publishers had to be satisfied as to the strength of the systems
ability to prevent piracy.
as you know i'm not really an android user i have only dabled with it, but from
what i did on it android users surely use similar finger flicks, swipes, and
taps don't they?.
as i said in another message you don't have to turn off VoiceOver or TalkBack
to use the app they are there still in the background.
the vast majority of Calibre users are not advanced users of technology and it
needed to be made so that even a novice could use it.
i'd love to know what sort of problems people have using the app, but i really
find it hard to understand how once they have read the instructions it doesn't
become very obvious and easy to use.
if the android commands have changed from doing flicks, swipes, and taps if you
let me know what the commands are that are different from these then i can
speak to calibre about it.
all suggestions as to how to make the app easier and friendlier to use are
welcome as Calibre want to have an app that is as easy as possible to use for
everyone.
pete.
