Hi Jill,

Sounds like you are running Vista. appwiz.cpl can actually be typed
into the Search box in Vista, but in fact simply brings up the
"Add/Remove Programs" dialog. Goodness knows why they couldn't have
simply said to run that in the first place??

BTW, in Vista, RUN is in Programs: Accessories.

George.

Pardon me George.

Thanks for the link, but I'm slightly confused. It says on the page
to click start, then click run. I can't find run in my start menu.
Should it be there, or does it mean that I type the word run in the
search box?

Thanks.

        Hi Jill,

It's a known problem, but there is a Microsoft Knowledge Base
article on it..

        Hi.

        J 10 with latest update, W V Premium.

I've had this problem for a long time now, and wonder if
anyone has any ideas on how I can fix it.

I ran a full system scan with Defender and no problems were
reported. Since then, each time I switch on my comp I get the
following message:

Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem
caused this program's service to stop. To start the service, restart
your computer or search help and support for how to start the service
manually.

Then there's an Okay button which I click on to get rid of it.
I tried restarting the machine, but to no avail. I also tried
starting it through the programs list, but still the same. I've also
tried getting windows to search for a solution to fix this problem,
but nothing. I have a feeling Defender has become corrupt in some
way, but don't know how. any ideas what's gone wrong and how to
rectify it please?

        Thanks.

        Jill.
