I don't think it's particularly better. In fact, I find it that with jaws, or at least jaws 9 is not as good as using outlook express. For example, jaws doesn't read if the message is unread or if there are attachment. Also folder structure is slightly different and jaws doesn't seem to cope with it as well is it does with OE, in my opinion. I haven't tried it yet with jaws 10, so I don't know if there are any improvements made, but I don't recall any mention of any improvements or fixes for windows live mail in "what's new" documentation for jaws 10. There are some extra features, the main one being better handling of spam. There is a spam folder by default and messages which windows live mail considers as spam are automatically put in that folder, unless of course the option is turned off. Also, outlook express puts all your mail in one inbox no matter how many accounts you have set up, where as windows live mail has a default inbox where mail from your default account is put and separate ones for your other accounts, if you have any. There are probably other slightly different/new features or modifications that I might have missed out, but those are the most important and noticeable ones.

Tell us, please, how Windows Live Mail is different and better, hopefully, than Outlook Express.

I'm certainly interested to know.

Yes, you're right. Windows live mail automatically imports all your outlook express content and you can install it without any sighted help. What's more, if you do decided to uninstall windows live mail for whatever reason, outlook express would still be untouched and all your settings would be kept.

Hi all, particularly Andrew Carol and Erica,

Sorry to you all, particularly Andrew, for jumping in on the thread, but I'm having a different problem to Andrew, which may be able to be solved by installing windows live mail, but I'm not certain, I wonder what you think.

Outlook Express seems to want to compact messages at least once every day or two, even though I have plenty of storage space on my hard disk. I did consider changing to Microsoft Outlook but even with my knowledge of Microsoft e-mail clients, I'd need sighted help to make sure I didn't lose anything if I changed the e-mail client to Outlook. However, talk on this thread has prompted me to ask what would happen if I did download Windows Live Mail on to this XP Pro machine, would it install over the top of Outlook Express version 6 and keep my folders and e-mails? Could I install it without Sighted help?

Thank you in advance to those on this thread, and also to all list members for their advice on this.
