Having read your message, and also the reply from Jackie
cairns,

I'm thinking that if you are able to access News Groups on
your computer, it might be helpful for you to subscribe to
bt.internet.support and follow any threads there discussing
your problem.

I'm already subscribed to that news group, and there have
been lots of discussions on this subject, but I am unsure as
to whether BT realise how much these password issues affect
those of us who use access technology.
