Thanks for that, Yes, that makes sense as a lot of files in my documents folder are old files from my previous computer that gave up the ghost at Christmas. susan -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Colin Howard Sent: 08 March 2015 09:39 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: opening files Sue, My understanding is compatability mode simply refers to the fact a file comes from an older version of, in my case, Word. When, in Word2013, I open a file created in my earlier version of word, it always shows up in compatability view. I don't believe this has any detramental affect on being able to access, edit, whatever, you desire, I suspect the only way to remove compatability, is, firstly, open the document in question, open an empty document in Word, then copy the entire content of the old into the new, close the old, pick up it's name then close the new, saving as the original name, this, if I've understood correctly, should replace old with new and it should then be in the new word format. Of course, if the old has the extension .doc you will ne3ed to delete, as your new one, if I've understood correctly, will have the extension of .docx. ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
