Hi All,
i've received a new device this week that will probably interest people
who want easy access to controlling their smart phones on the move.
it's called an:
O6
for those that have seen the bradley watch it's very similar in size and
shape but without straps.
it is a bluetooth remote control for smart devices
it's round with a diameter of 44mm, weighs 18 grams and is made of
aluminium, it has a rubber coated centre button, another rubber coated
button that surrounds the centre button and a milled edged bezel around
the outside.
it's rechargeable and will work for about a week on each charge.
the charger is magnetic and the O6 can only fit on it in the correct
orientation.
it was originally invented as an eyes free way for drivers to operate
their phones while driving but the inventor soon recognised how useful
it could be for visually impared people using speech on their smart
devices so they have incorperated special modes for us.
it has it's own app that will automatically read out notifications,
tweets, and some other things as well when they come in and their adding
more all the time.
it has it's own artificial intelligence that analyses everything that
comes in and offers you quick responses, so for example if you got a
message from a friend asking if you are coming over to their house and
the message also contained their address and phone number it would ask
you to press the centre button to say "yes" the outer button to reply
"no" or you could twist the bezel and it would offer to call the person
or guide you to their house.
this is known as basic mode and only operates the functions that are
within their app.
but what they've done for visually impared people is to create two more
modes.
advanced mode which can be set to automatically operate if voiceover is
active allows you to use the O6 as the equivelent of all the taps and
swipes you would normally do with your fingers and also includes the
home button functions and volume controls.
it has another mode that you can switch in and out off by pressing the
centre button for 2 seconds and this gives you full access to all the
roter functions.
so in advanced mode you can navigate all around the phone activate
buttons, links change settings, open and switch between apps, make and
receive calls and much more.
it's a very impressive bit of engineering.
it has accessories available so for example with the belt clip that i
have which the O6 fits into and then twists to lock it in place with
this on my belt i can leave my Iphone tucked away in a pocket, have a
bluetooth airpod in my ear, have my guide dog in my left hand and still
be able to do everything i want to do on my Iphone one handed just by
twisting the bezel and using the 2 buttons on the O6.
all these capabilities are already working on apple devices, but at
the moment only the basic functions are available to android users but
they hope to include everything for android users during august.
i received mine because i backed it via crowd funding and i know the
pre-sales have sold out at the moment, but on the website you can
register to be notified when more stock is available plus they have the
user guide available as a pdf and accessible word doc.
