[access-uk] netbook connection?

hi guys, My wife has just purchased an Acer 751 netbook.
The Netbook is running xp home. It seems to be working all right, but for
one very annoying problem.
The wireless connection does not seem to be very good. If she is using the
netbook in a different room from the Linksys wireless router. The signal
strength is not what we were expecting.
If the netbook is being used in the same room as the Linksys router. the
signal is exelent, but one room away from the router the signal is good, but
two rooms away, and the signal is poor.
Surely, this is not right. I'm just wondering if there is something we can
do to improve the signal in other rooms.
We don't live in a large house at all, we only have a two bedroom downstair
flat in a block of four.
