Yeah you're right Phil, thanks. I'll have a rake. Until you mentioned it, I'd
never even heard of the N81 with such a reasonable storage. I must ask my son
when he gets in from work later. He doesn't rate Comet's range of phones, so
may not know about it. I don't think he'd ever completely detach his wrist
from his Ipod because the battery life of any phone with music player couldn't
suffice his needs. But it's certainly something I'll explore a bit further
before I trundle off to hospital.

Thanks.

Jackie

  Jackie,

According to the ever so helpful guy in CPW the batter life on the n81 is
better than the n95 but as to how true that is and how much just sales talk I
don't know, if you do a google on "n81 reviews" you should get a couple of
results which include battery life......I guess this could be one of the
compromises between separate phone / mp3 devices vs combined.

  Cheers,

  Phil

I realise Phil that the camera might not be so important from your point of
view yes. Do you happen to know what battery life of the two is best, as I
couldn't find that on the site I interrogated.

I can see I'm going to have to go and investigate a few things with my son to
see what's what with these particular models. Got a horrible feeling it's
going to cost me too (smiles). But he has to have Pay-As-You-Go because I
won't vouch for him being on a contract yet. That might limit the network he
can use, depending on who offers what.

He certainly wasn't interested in the IPhone, which is exclusive to O2 and is
contract only.

If you find out any more info, please do let me know, even if you prefer to
do so off list.

    jackie,

Obviously I am coming at this from a VI perspective so the difference in
camera is not a concern for me.
yes the n81 is more multi-media based but as you say it's cheaper and from
what I've discovered you still get a good mp3 player which I'm interested in as
well as wireless connectivity...and yes it's much cheaper than an n95!!!

George, I've just looked at the spec for it on
    www.expansys.com
    for my lad.

It strikes me there are two things about the N81 8GB that seem to differ
from the N95 8GB version. Firstly, the N81 refers to micro SD cards which the
N95 8GB doesn't use I believe. Secondly, the camera on the N81 is a lot less
than the N95, the latter being 5M as opposed to the N81's 2M. The N81 also
seems to be more multimedia driven for gaming etc, but it's a hell of a lot
cheaper on an unlocked basis on that website.

Is the N81 actually a current model? Although it's listed, it doesn't
appear in the current list.

      George.

I too would be interested in opinions, but not for Ian or myself. Our
son is looking for a good music phone with large storage as a combined
birthday/Christmas present from the mugs who are his mum and dad (smiles). And
I only told him I'd think about it too!!

But while he wouldn't need TALKS as a sighted user, I would be really
keen to know if anyone has used the N81, which I've not come across before, and
what it is like compared to the N95, which I've seen. He has sort of got his
heart set on the N95 8GB, and wants to combine music and phone into one device
instead of having his Ipod attached to one arm, and his current mobile at the
end of his other one. Purely because I'm interested, and want to make sure
that if we do buy him something like that he's getting a good deal, I'd value
any comments.

        Hi,

Yes back on mobile phones again!!

Have been to a couple of phone shops today to have a feel of the n81
and n95 handsets before talking to my phone provider next week re a new
contract. both phones would be good, I particularly like the music bias on the
n81 and fact it comes in 8gb version. is anyone out there using an n81 and if
so any comments re it's features, talks etc? Also I recall Steve Nutt
commenting a few days ago that the 8gb n95 is currently not workable with
talks, does this apply to the 8gb n81 too?

Your comments / feedback much appreciated,

        With thanks,

        Phil
