As I say, it is very subjective. I haven’t heard Sonos yet though it is my
intention to do so when I go to Scotland next month and stop by a John Lewis

No, you don’t have to use them for TV at all. You can buy a Sonos Bar for
television, but you don’t have to. The app primarily controls the speakers.
