hi steve,

i didn't put it in my original message but they will have an android app
available as well as the apple one when they are delivered.
and when i asked them about wether their app would be accessible i did
only specificly ask about the apple one as that was the one they had
already developed and was using for the demonstration that i listened too.
the contact details given on their website are:
For more information, interviews or demos, please contact PR representative

although my original enquery to them i did through the indiegogo message
facility on their compaign page.
below are the answers to their frequently asked questions.

pete.

Has the TellSpec device been scientifically tested?
We’ve conducted extensive internal tests. Our tests show that we can
reliably provide
useful information about foods and their ingredients. We are working to
partner with
university researchers who will test the product, and document their
results in academic
publications.
What does the TellSpec scanner do?
The handheld scanner is a spectrometer. The low-powered lamp inside the
scanner emits
infrared light through the front window. Reflected light from the sample is
then
collected and dispersed by a diffraction grating onto a digital
micro-mirror device.,
which reflects the light onto an InGaAs detector. The detector converts the
light
into an electrical signal that is then digitized and sent to your smart
phone over
Bluetooth.
What happens after I scan the food?
Once the smart phone receives the digital spectrum of the food, it
transmits it to
the TellSpec analysis engine in one of our servers, which processes it,
compares
it to reference spectra, and runs a learning algorithm on it. The output is
interpreted
through a large database, and information about the food is selected and
customized
for the user. The smart phone then downloads the information from the
server and
displays it to the user.
What type of spectroscopy does TellSpec use?
TellSpec uses infrared spectroscopy in the wavelength range 900 nm to 1700
nm.
What can TellSpec detect?
Which allergens and toxins can TellSpec tell me about?
How small an amount of gluten can Tellspec detect?
Can I scan just a bit of the food?
Can TellSpec tell me about pesticides and other toxins?
Does TellSpec provide information on sulfite levels?
When and Where?
Can TellSpec analyze any food?
Yes. The depth of the information you get depends on how familiar TellSpec
is with
that food or similar foods. TellSpec has invented a learning algorithm. The
more
you and others use TellSpec, the more powerful it gets; and the better the
information
that everyone gets.
Can TellSpec scan produce or meats?
Yes, you can scan fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, meat, fish, eggs and
other non-packaged
foods, and get information about those foods.
Can I use TellSpec every day?
Yes, TellSpec is designed to scan everything you eat or drink. Use it as
often as
you like.
Can I use TellSpec with my smart phone?
TellSpec will be released with an app for both iPhone and Android.
The Company
Who is TellSpec?
TellSpec Inc. was founded to build a healthier world by empowering people
to make
informed choices. TellSpec is a privately held Ontario corporation founded
on February
1, 2013, headquartered in Toronto, Canada.
Do you have any intellectual property, and how is it protected?
TellSpec filed a U.S. patent application on August 5, 2013 for its method
of analyzing
and correlating spectra, identifying samples and their ingredients, and
displaying
related personalized information. We expect to file for patents in other
jurisdictions
under the Patent Cooperation Treaty. TellSpec also has rights in its source
code,
in the industrial design of the handheld TellSpec device, in its trade
secrets, and
its trademarks.
Hardware
How do I power my TellSpec scanner?
The TellSpec scanner contains rechargeable batteries, which can be
recharged by connecting
it to any PC or Mac via USB.
Is the TellSpec scanner water-resistant?
The TellSpec is not watertight. Simply take the same precautions with your
TellSpec
as you do with your smart phone.
