and uses a lot more key combinations, it'll be a hell of a learning curve but

Further to Ian's email, your desktop won't have anything on it unless you've
put something there. Some people (me included) choose to put drives on there
desktops - you can do this in the general section of Finder preferences.
While comparing operating systems can be dangerous, the dock feels more akin
to the Windows desktop, and already contains commonly used apps. As I think
was posted last week, VO+d will get you there.
