There is absolutely nothing wrong with the ultra cane. If you are in an area where there are a lot of people, you just turn it off. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Cussick" <the.big.white.shepherd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi,

I got to try the ultra Kain and found it rubbish,

It seems to be design buy a sighted person who in the design stages just pointed vaguely at say a car and if it vibrated it was fine.

I have heard about the eye glasses from the RNIB I haven't tried them but I have heard they work quite well, the problem with any of this stuff is if your in a shopping center you will get to much information.

I am probably try the glasses I think it makes sense to have something at eye level you would still have to use a stick or dog, but if it helps me I would use it.

In this day of age I think the Kain should have been improved but maybe the olde tried and tested devices do really work.

I would consider my self a compotant dog handler but I have had worse knocks using dogs than I have had with the stick.

I don't walk nearly as fast with a stick maybe 2MPH and around 4MPH in clear conditions using my GSD.

I would interested to hear what people who have the eye glasses think about them I will watch this thread with interest.

Hi barry - interesting that the company went bust - at 4/500 quid a
throw for one cane, I can't imagine the thing having a huge client
take-up - you'd hardly be able to afford a couple of spares sitting in
the cupboard would you LOL!I actually got the chance to have a go with
the ultra cane about 5 years ago now; and whilst in a way the idea may
have been good, in practical terms, the handle was large and chunky, the
cane extremely heavy for what it was, and interpreting what the
vibrations meant, i.e., obstacle to left, right, in front or overhead,
ttook a vast amount of concentration.

There used to be a company selling such a thing that they called the
ultracane, but they went bust recently. I'm sure you'd still be able
to buy
them somewhere. Check out google or ebay for an ultracane.

Cheers
