I'll go through the settings and see if I can enable this function. I have put
German on the language rota but if I enabler this, then it changes the
pronunciation of the English words. But thanks for the suggestion.
I remember things best if I see them written down so I am hoping that by using
my Braille Edge as a braille display when using the app it will enable me to
see how the words are spelt and they will stay in my memory better.
It wasn't a problem at first but now the lessons are getting a little more
challenging, I am grateful to now have the back-up of a braille screen-reader.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

Hello Alison,
Glad you've got something sorted but going back to your original problem -
Daniel speaking the German words in an English accent on the iphone - I wonder
whether Voiceover's settings are set to switch languages automatically.
Because I'm using duolingo to learn Swedish and the voice switches to a
Swedish-sounding one when it gets to the German words. I know there's a
setting somewhere in Voiceover's settings to control whether Voiceover
automatically detects/switches languages but I don't know exactly what it's
called or where it is because I'm not running the latest version of ios. Maybe
you could have a look/change that setting and see if it makes a difference.

Edge settings I see I can get the Notepad to display in uncontracted
braille. It isn’t that big a faff to switch from one to the other so I
am using this function for my SD which has all my German files, and
then switching back to contracted braille for the SD-card I use for my
writing classes.
Today I also followed the instructions to make my Braille Edge a
display for my iphone. For most of the lessons this won’t be
necessary, but will be really useful when it comes to the comprehension
pieces.
So, I think I’m sorted, but thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
