Hi,
Once you have it all working, delete any references to the morignal modem software you had before, and ensure that the dial up connection is removed from the network connections. This will ensure other applications don't get confused.
Glad you got it sorted :). Andrew.

Hi Andrew.
Yes! Bang on mate! I had "Always dial my default connection radio button ticked" Also, your second point, yes, the guy at the shop did ask me for all my details so he could set it up. I'm actually on-line with my new router at the moment so I'll send this message, shut down and re-boot.
Very grateful for all your help.
Best wishes.

Hi Andy,
I think I may know what the problem is. With your system connected to the
router, and the router connected to the telephone line, can you go into
Internet Explorer, then go into tools | options. On the connections tab,
there is a section at the top called dialup or virtual private networking
connections. Just bellow that, there are a group of three radio buttons,
ensure the one that says "never dial a connection" is chosen. Ok on that
window and completely come out of IE and go back in.
When the man did the router job for you, did you have to give him the details (eg username and password) for the Freeserve account you connect through?
Thanks. Andrew.
If you want and you are really stuck give me an email and I will pop over my phone number.

Hi George.
It's all getting rather confusing now George. My device is the Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless G Router..
I was quoted a price of £75.00 and half an hours work. The job took four
days and the cost was £117.70. The shop fitted a wireless card to
Pauline's
computer, which is located upstairs in the house. I was told to place the
router beside my computer downstairs, beside the telephone point. The
shop
guy also told me that my Freeserve USB External Modem would now be
obsolete
as the router was also a modem.
I connected my computer to the Router and could not get on-line. Pauline has no problems getting on-line.
Any ideas as to what is going on would be very appreciated.
Best wishes.
Andy

Hi Andy,
It would be a seriously great help if we knew exactly what make and model of router you have.
For example, I have a Draytek Vigor 2600G. This is not only a wired router, it is also wireless router. Moreover, it is an ADSL/Broadband modem.
So with one single box. One cable goes from this to the Broadband telephone point. I have four "ports" into which PCs can be connected using a network cable, and any PC with a wireless card can also "talk" to the device.
George.

Hi again Andrew.
Now I'm really confused. I was told when I bought the router that I would have to set aside my old Freeserve usb external modem as this would be no longer required.
! So am I right in thinking then the set-up is as follows;
My computer plugged into Freeserve External Modem. Freeserve External Modem plugged into Router. Router plugged into telephone point.
Pauline's computer upstairs fitted with wireless card.
Best wishes.

Hello Andy, So where is the modem? A router needs to beconnectedthrough a modem, this is how it should be, first offcable from modem torouter, then cable from router to computer and as far asI know youcannot use wireless with one computer and use cable withthe other one,you need to make your mind up as to which way you want togo., either withcable, or wireless, cable is far the best.router sits

It should go into an ethernet socket either located onThe shopor in an add-on card, but it is not the dialup modem.

Hi all.
This is a long shot I'm thinking but if successful, computerhaving to take my computer into the shop.
I purchased a wireless card and a Router for my wife'sbut just
The shop fitted the card for me.
I attached the cables from my computer to the router,I thought thatbeforehand, I attempted to install the routers software.
The CD auto-ran and firstly started to install Adobe.help file. Theperhaps this was to enable a purchaser to read a textwithin my Officeauto-run facility then started searching for a fileSubsequently, I2000 directory and advised that it could not find it.file within mycould not install the router's software.
My brother advised that I needed to delete or rename avery grateful fortemp directory but added that he was unsure which file.
Does this make sense to anyone? If so, I would betown with mysome assistance, as I'd rather avoided another trip intoRelease Date:computer.
Best wishes.
