Hi Simon,
I don't believe so as Whatsapp groups were never really designed to be used as
a social media alternative. For one thing, they don't thread terribly well!
They work very well in concentrated setups. For example, a bunch of us in
Coventry who are all friends are in a group and we put a message in if, say,
we're going to be in town and we want to know if anyone else might be passing
that way and might want to meet up - or sometimes, we've cooked too much food
and who wants to come round for dinner! However, these are not the sorts of
groups that I'd want listed in a public directory.
I'm in a couple of more generic groups with a few dozen to hundred members
which probably could be listed in a public directory, but they get very
cluttered very quickly. That's not to try to discourage you from joining these
groups if they work for you! Clearly they do work for some otherwise they
wouldn't exist. But at this point, I think a directory of them is going to have
to come from a critical mass of such group owners pooling resources rather than
Whatsapp themselves.

Subject: [access-uk] is there a directory of whatsapp groups?
Importance: High
hello all,
does anyone know, if there is any sort of accessible directory, database, or
any sort of searchable list of whatsapp groups?
as it is one of the few forms of social media that I actually find accessible
and easy to use, it would be super if I could find out if there are any
whatsapp groups covering my interests, but there doesn't seem to be a way of
doing this from with in whatsapp, so thought it was worth an ask if there was
another source that I could use to find this sort of info.
