Hi Jackie - I'm not too daunted by the idea of navigating the touch screen, but more by using the Itunes software to get my mp3 collection on to the touch, and creating play lists. Patience is not one of my strong points when it comes to

software that doesn't appear to be intuitive.

If you don't use Itunes on your computer, then it sounds like you haven't got round to tackling putting music on to the Touch yet?

Andy

Hi Andy

Unfortunately, the bad news is that you have to use iTunes. This is
because, when you first connect your iPod device to the Mac or PC, iTunes
picks up the fact it is connected as your product has a serial number. Once
you create your account, you would only need to type in your password as a
rule to purchase something. And, if you don't buy a wireless keyboard -
which isn't compulsory by any means - you would need to type it in on the
iPod Touch itself. Now I appreciate this sounds daunting, but I did it, and
I know others who have done likewise. As you type in the password, it
doesn't tell you what you have typed, just clicks or sometimes says
"bullet". You need to use a password with at least one capital letter,
numbers and lower case letters, all of which have to add up to more than six
characters.

Sadly, you have to use iTunes to transfer music over from your PC to the
iPod Touch. I say sadly because I don't like iTunes, but we have to lump
it, so there's no use grumbling about it.

Remember too that you would have to type in your broadband wireless key so
you can benefit from the WiFi around your home. I typed this in on four
occasions before I got it right and managed to go live.

Honestly Andy, I thought I would never be able to use an Apple device not
that long ago, but it's amazing how you do learn to navigate a flat screen,
and I can't leave mine alone.

I hope this helps.

Hi Jackie - So if I understand, I don't actually need to install Itunes at all? I don't wish to buy music from Itunes, I just want to put my own music
collection, and some books from Audible on to the Touch, and to buy some
apps from their apps store.

I've listened to several podcasts about the Touch, and understand how to use
the virtual onscrreen keyboard, but again if I've got it right, when it
comes to purchasing from the apps store, I'd need to enter my password, and
if I didn't have a keyboard, would this be impossible using the touch
screen? Is it the same as password fields online where when characters are
entered, JFW just says star star star? If that is the case, then this forces
us to buy a keyboard whether we want one or not.

Hi Andy

If you go online to
http://store.apple.com/uk
You can create an account which will be the same one you use for iTunes,
and
the App Store on your iPod Touch. They call it your ID. Your Email
address
is your ID, and your password you have to use when you log into the App
Store or iTunes when you are going to make a purchase. If you create an
account online on the Apple website, it's easier than doing it on the iPod
Touch. But once you've done it, you just have to enter your password on
the
iPod Touch to purchase an application. Does that help or make sense?
That's where the keyboard comes in handy!

I don't use iTunes on the PC, so I'm afraid I can't help you regarding the
version of JAWS you need.

Jackie and all - on the topic of Itunes, I have a demo version of JFW11 on
this machine, which version of Itunes will I need? I don't actually want
to
buy any music from Itunes, but understand I need an account to download
from
the apps store? -

Hi Ron

Yes. Just go to iTunes on your PC, for which you use the same
credentials,
and change it there. Something normally appears about passwords anyway
if
you cock up!

Good man, keep going.

Hello folks, my thanks to Marie and Jackie for helping me so far. There
were times during the last week when I thought of giving up. I have
persevered however and have now purchased the Apple keyboard. I have not
purchased any apps yet because I can't remember my password. I did
however
try YouTube and pressed the wrong button and got a celebrity chef cooking
naked, not much good for me,smile Is there a way of changing my
password?

Cheers

Ron
