Hi allWhat is everyone using their Ipads for? Especially if you already have an I-phone? I was asked this by a mobile provider yesterday and when I considered the expense of the Ipad I did wonder why people have both an I-phone and I-pad? Your comments will be welcome.

Hi JimYes, you are dead right! (smile). I also find some names can get it into atwist, so have found spelling them helpful.I am sure the whole concept could be improved upon with future releases, butusing this feature regularly does make one less self-conscious after a while. It saves me a lot of time finding theincorrect words and fiddling about deleting them, quicker that way, that's why you should dictate in sentences. My only additional comment to what Jackie has said relates to correcting dictation errors. This I find to be a pain and sometimes quite time consuming. Thats why I end to dictate in fairly small chunks, say to a comma, on the basis that the shorter the chunk the easier it is to correct and the less likely it is to make erros anyway. Totally agree though, it does have its uses, and in the context of otherinput possibilities like a keyboard and the touch screen, the experience isvery accessible! I also use it to launch the apps on my iPhone. For example, I will say: "Launch App Store", or "Launch Sky Sports". When dictating text messages, I speak reasonably slowly and precisely so Siri generally gets accurately what I want to say. The Dictate button is fairly easy to find. You do a double tap with one finger to start, and wait for the beep. Once you have dictated your message, finish by performing a two-finger double tap. Make sure your fingers are apart slightly so that Siri knows you are indicating the finish of dictation. Wherever there is a search field in your app, there should be a Dictation button for you to use Siri. I also ask Siri questions like: "Today's football fixtures", and "Will I need an umbrella today"? I do like it, and I think it can only get better if they work on it at Apple. When I first played with it, I wondered if it would be rather gimmicky, but I actually use it every day. And, to be fair, the more I have used it, the more proficient I have become. I know she is there but really have not used the facility. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 10:55 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: ipad accessibilityHi Mark In essence, I didn't get on with the iPhone first time round, so gave it to my son. But as my confidence with using the iPod Touch grew, I bought an iPad late last year, and got on well with it. Then, a few months back, I finally took the plunge and renewed my interest in the iPhone. That made my iPad really surplus, so I sold it. I did like it though, but felt that as I had my iPod Touch and an iPhone 5, it was better to recoup some of the money invested before the iPad got too old. As you say, these devices are not cheap! As the iPad is larger, the sound is better for music, and VoiceOver just has more depth. My iPod Touch is the fourth generation that I received as a present more than two years ago. While it has the latest iOS software, it doesn't support Siri, and I do use this quite a lot on my iPhone 5. If you can, get some hands-on at one of the Apple stores to see what you prefer in terms of size. They should allow you to try out each device and ask any questions. Good luck. I ask as the Ipad is quite expensive and as I already have the Iphone I am trying to justify the extra expense. thanks Mark Bishop ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, April 22, 2013 12:05 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: ipad accessibilityHi Mark Yes, except that you are dealing with a larger touch-screen. Some apps work exclusively for the iPad, but if you can use one device, you should be ok to use the iPad as well, least that is my experience and conclusion. Can people tell me about their experiences with it? I am using the I-phone 4S and have used the Ipod touch recently and have got on really well. Is the ipad as user-friendly as these? thanks Mark Bishop ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
