If you are going to be in temporary accommodation for less than a year, you would probably be best advised to steer clear of the big 4 providers - BT, Talk Talk, Sky or Virgin, as you will have to talk out a 12 - 18 month contract with them. Actually, you would probably be best to steer clear of them, period.

Your best bet would be to find a smaller ISP who can offer a rolling month contract so you only have to give a month's notice when you are due to move. One of the best ISPs is Zen, who offer this on ADSL, with or without phone as well. On the ADSL products there are monthly download caps which are 50GB, 200GB and 500GB downloads, with the monthly price being £18.37, £25.52 and £35.74 respectively. You can also buy additional download GBs to store for those occasions where you may go over your monthly download limit. The phone starts at £12.30 per month depending on the service you choose in addition to the Broadband, but is again on a one month contract.

Zen also have the advantage of being a UK company with UK service people who actually know what they are talking about and take pride in running a great service. You won't find anyone talking with a script here, and they will do everything they can to sort out any problems if they arise - not that that happens very often. You can also have a chat with them before you sign up to see what would be the best options for you.

I don't work for Zen, just a very happy customer having returned to them for a second time having had a terrible time with BT. I'm on Zen's fibre package now, but that is a 12 month contract so probably not what you want initially. They are not the cheapest ISP around, but you get what you pay for. I remember a few years ago, when I was on ADSL with them, there was an outage on Christmas Day - not Zen's fault, but a wider issue. When we rang the help line to find out what was going on, we got the Managing Director/owner on the end of the phone who had come in on to help man the phone lines. That is what I call good service and dedication.

You can find out more here: http://www.zen.co.uk/home-office/broadband/home-office-broadband.aspx and the pre-sales telephone number is 01706 902100 9 - 5 pm UK times or sales@xxxxxxxxx <mailto:sales@xxxxxxxxx>

Hope this helps. I'm sure there are other ISPs offering one month contracts, but I can only speak for Zen personally.

Cheers
