Hi Barry.

About seven years ago, the RNIB undertook a nationwide study which revealed that over 75 % of blind people of working age were unemployed. I've even seen figures more frightening that that.

Apparently, 27% of mentally ill people are unemployed. I can't remember the
figure for blind people, but I think it is lower than that.

So how do we increse the amount of blind people employed? Are we always at
the bottom of the pile and set to remain so?  Just a question.

There's also the choice of complying with the DDA.  If a company has the
choice of employing someone with epilepsy that is controlled with medication or someone with a sensory loss, they can choose the less inconvenient choice
and still comply with the DDA.

Yes but  it's illegal now, for employers to refuse to employ people on
grounds of disability.

The problem is how does  one show proof,  of discrimination?

If  2 people applied for a job at say RNIB, one is blind, one is sighted.
If the sighted person gets the job, does that mean the blind person has been
discriminated against. Maybe, but not always.

I employ  a male gardener.
So have i discriminated against  females!
