Yes, Ed.  I'm using relay.plus.net.  I've filled in the optional user name and 
password.  What settings do you have for SSL, authentication and server port?  
I'm wondering if any of these need to be changed.

Hi Caroline,

Are you attempting to use relay.plus.net as your SMTP server? If so, you’ll 
need to make sure you’ve completed the optional username and password fields 
for outgoing mail so that your credentials are authenticated.  Your other 
option is to include EE’s SMTP settings in your outgoing server box, the mail 
should still send from your Plusnet account.
