Hi David
I Think it is the system the company use, staff plan, all the staff rotas are
produced on here, I am not sure how they get the image of the table they send
me, they seem to want to help so I will try and find out more. Leave it with
me. Yes it would be much easier if they could explain to me how they actually
export the information they send on to me.

Subject: [access-uk] Re: how to display a scanned image of a rota in a table
You should not be getting a scanned version. Very few people create documents
in PDF – which sounds like the format you are getting these rotas in. They
tend to be obsessed with converting to PDF afterwards for various reasons. How
this is done can create access barriers.
You don’t need the scanned PDF version if you already have Office. If your
carer’s organisation is creating the table in Word they should be able to send
it to you so that you can read it straightforwardly in Word without having to
do any OCR conversion. Both NVDA and Jaws can read tables absolutely fine in
Word. Just use control alt and arrow keys to navigate the table cells.
Similarly if the rota is in Excel it should be possible to read the rota though
defining name fields for row and column titles to read would also make the
process a lot easier for you.
The more straightforward and uniform the table is with regular columns and rows
the easier it is to read.
If, for whatever reason, you are not able to get a native Word or excel
version, which I would really argue strongly for as an adjustment, I think the
next best thing for access is to ask them to produce an html or htm version
of the table so that you can read it in your default web browser, again as an
alternative to a scanned image.
Actually with some spreadsheets I find them easier to read when converted to
html for reading in a web page anyway.
Finally if you really are forced into the OCR route which I would argue is a
failure of reasonable adjustm ent, the best program I have found over the years
in table conversion is Abby Finereader . I believe I have still got version 12
for this purpose.

Subject: [access-uk] how to display a scanned image of a rota in a table
Hi
My care provider is at last experimenting with me to send me my care rota in a
e-mail, I have tried converting the document to various formats, most are
readable, in excel, some of the data over laps to other columns, notepad is no
go and so far I have found that the jaws ocr program seems to be the best. It
opens the rota with the days across the top, the morning times down the left
side and the rest of the schedule kind of scattered across the screen, how can
I get this document to show in a proper table, I can only assume that the print
version would be in an actual table. In the past I have tried scanning it
myself but if my care provider is willing to help me, let them do it. Any ideas
please

Subject: [access-uk] Marking controls on new electric oven
Hi Folks,
Apologies for cross posting.
In the distant past companies like Hotpoint used to offer a service to mark
their washing machines for VI's to use. I am in need of such a service on a
new electric oven which we will have to purchase. We have visited several
showrooms to check out various makes and models and some makes have
buttons/controls which click when turned, such as Neff models which click on
the various settings but little or no clicks on the tempreture control.
Does anyone have any advice on this matter?
