Hi Jon thanks very much for your suggestion but my problem is that nothing is
talking to me so I cannot access the bar to go along and find the ribbon once I
have checked it The speech is talking while I write but there are no other
boxes available and no alt menu.

Janet, I think I had a similar problem some time ago. If so, I received the
following from Sight & Sound to remedy the problem. John Wells.
Firstly set up the ribbon bar support in JAWS.
1 Open Windows Live Mail or focus on its main window.
2 Then press JAWSKey+V and type "ribbon" into the search box.
3 Press down arrow to go to "Virtual ribbon support".
4 Press SPACEBAR and turn it on.
5 Press TAB to get to "OK" button and press SPACEBAR on it.
In Windows Live Mail:
1 Press ALT for the ribbon bar.
2 Press right arrow until you get to "View" ribbon.
3 Press down arrow to get to the lower ribbon.
4 Then press right arrow until you get to the "layout" ribbon group and
press ENTER on it.
5 Then press down arrow to get to "reading pane" and press ENTER to
activate the button.
6 Down arrow to "Off" and press ENTER on it.
If you still struggle after turning the reading pane off carry out steps 1
through 4 and then down arrow to "message listview" and use similar steps to
put this on "Single line view".
