Hi Maria
It does happen that sometimes phones cannot download and over the air update
correctly. In this case, the only option is to use the direct firmware
upgrade recovery mode option and iTunes to install the firmware update
manually. For this you will need a lightning cable and a computer as well as
the latest version of iTunes. Apple support has full information on the
instructions and process for doing this, if that fails to work the only
option would be to take it in for servicing by an Apple certified technician.
They may or may not be able to assist given the age of this phone. Good luck.

Subject: [access-uk] help with updating iphone 6s
HI guys.
my friend has a 6s which he is trying to update.
he h verified that the 6s does take the latest update.
The update seems to download fine, then there is an update failed error, and
the phone goes back to download and install.
things we have tried include.
1. deleting the downloaded update and restarting the phone.
2. doing a hard reset.
3. resetting network settings.
4. erasing the phone and setting it up as a new iPhone.
Looked on google and we could ’t find any other options.
The only other option we could find is using iTunes and updating with a pc.
Trouble is that my friend has had a stroke and cannot use a pc and he doesn’t
have iTunes.
so does anyone know of anything else we can try?
thanks.
Maria
