Just to add to Jackie's excellent advice swiping left to right is progressing down the screen and swiping right to left is going back up. Do this very very slowly to begin with and as Jackie says we were all there. People are amazed at how fast I can swipe to something but trust me on day one I hadn't a clue what I was doing!!! I learned everything about my iOS devices and Mac through lists so stick with us Adrian and you will cope with this just fine. If you have motor difficulties then I think there are settings within accessability for this and if you have hearing difficulty also. It is a case of trying out what works best for you but that is perhaps for a day or two time.

Hi Adrien

Oh dear! Well when you receive your keyboard, just shout and one of us will do our best to help, we've all been there. In the meantime, you might wish
to explore your iPad with your finger. When you come across an item you
want to open, double-tap it. Remember that the physical button at the
bottom of your device will take you back to the Home screen if you get into
difficulty.

Hi Jacky

Yes thank you for that, I have just found out that the
keyboard I have got for it is not compatible with voice
over, the caps key is speaking but nothing else, have spoken
to apple and they recommend the logitech ultra thin
keyboard, I don't want to get this wrong again. It is going
to delay me by a week or more but so be it. I am raring to
go but the keyboard is going to slow me up. Also I have a
pass key on the screen and it is stopping me accessing the
screen, if voice over is on, screen curton is on and mum has
to turn voice over off to access the screen, this is a bit
of a nuisance. I should have asked questions before I jumped
the gun and ordered the keyboard. You live and learn. Thanks
for all your help, it is appreciated.

Regards

Adrien

Hi Adrien

These things are quite daunting to start with, most of us
will testify to
that. But it will get easier as you go along, and remember
we are here to
help if you are stuck. You can go into Settings, General,
Accessibility and
VoiceOver to customise things as well when you feel a bit
more adventurous.

Hi Jacky

Yes I got the apple id set up after I had purchased the
ipad, it helps to be organised. Will start working on it
this morning. Thanks, will keep you posted.

Adrien

Hi Adrien

Presumably then you have an account set up with Apple which
you use whether
it be in iTunes, on the Apple UK store, or the App Store on
your device.

Open App Store and choose Search. Here, you can type in
something like
Skype, Radio, or basically whatever you are looking for. It
does help if
you know the name of the app you want in order to narrow
your search and
stand a better chance of finding the right one. Once you
think you have the
app of your choice, double-tap the button that says the
price, then
double-tap again to purchase it. On the Apple Bluetooth
keyboard, you need
to activate a double-tap by pressing the space-bar with the
VO keys. These
two keys are the second and third keys in from the left on
the bottom row
where the space-bar is situated. You will be asked for your
ID, so you need
to put in your Email address and password at this point.

If you achieve all this successfully, you will find the app
added to your
device when you leave the App Store, so double-tap to open
it as you would
any other.

If you need any more help, just let us know.

Subject: [access-uk] help with my ipad please

Hi

Ok I now have my new ipad mini, I am completely stuck, I
have it set up with my bluetooth keyboard, I am not sure how
I get apps for it, I specifically would like one for skype,
facebook and radio, also one for writing. Mum had to help me
set-up the keyboard as all the codes were in the leaflets.
What do I do next? I have had a brief look at the applevis
site, there are loads but for now I want to concentrate on
getting important things set-up. Can someone please direct
me? I have had a look at itunes and have registered but
don't know how to proceed. I have also up-dated the firmware
on the ipad because when I got it yesterday, itunes told me
there was an up-date and suggested I up-date. I thought I
may as well get it out the way.

Regards

Adrien
