I don't know what your pc came with, so can't be sure, if it came with discs for win eight .1 then use those, otherwise it's clean install of eight and then upgrade to eight.1. of course, first try a repair, as you say. Thought, if no discs, the clean install might be on a partition on the pc. See if the user guide says anything about accessing that. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Adrien Collins Sent: 05 March 2015 14:33 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: help with mum's pc Hi Martin I had similar thoughts, yes it is a lenovo and know it has a lot of stuff I have gradually removed, mum I think has disks with it but if not, how do we make one to fix the issue? Would we need to burn windows 8.1 to disk to fix it? Would it be able to repair or do a full reinstall? Mum hasn't backed up her pc as yet but I think we are going to have to do that sometime soon. A repair would be preferable for obvious reasons. Because of the junkware put on a lot of these laptops, thoughts are that it might be something to do with that junkware. The page talks of using the windows eight disc. Ok she has used windows 8.1 on her lenovo desktop since last year. She has had an error and it has occurred 78 times in the last 8 months or since last July according to the event log. The error is irql not less or equals, when this error occurs, the pc shuts down and tries to scan but it cannot and mum has to physically reboot it. Sometimes the error happens as soon as she boots up but sometimes when she is using other programs such as krome or outlook. This morning the problem has occurred 4 times, I do not know anything about windows 8 so have no idea how to fix this but it seems to be getting worse. How can we fix it please? According to google it is quite common but I don't know. Any ideas please? Sometimes she can go days without it crashing but today it has happened 4 times so far. In the event log it mentioned something along the lines of curnal power support which makes me think it is definitely something in windows itself.
