[access-uk] Re: help with dab radio signals please

There are loads of DAB indoor aerial/signal boosters on Amazon but as far as I have seen they rely on wired connection to aradio so may not be suitable for portable devices if this is what you are looking for.

I would be interested as well if anybody knows of awireless DAB Booster.

I wonder though if you would not be better in your situation relying upon internet streamed radio.

The Victor Reader Stream is portable has good connection speed and a robust good radio app but suffers from the poor volume the device generally has so would not be great for somebody trying to use earphones who has a high level of hearing impairment.

The Plextalk Linio or Pocket have far better sound quality and volume but a greatly inferior radio app, it is largely self managed with problematic access to much BBC sports content in particular.

The Apple TV is a non portable device which has been usefully reviewed by Jackie on her website as an Internet Radio Option.

The Sonatra Plus is a more expensive option from Wireless for the Blind but suffers from a similar problem in accessing much of the BBC sports content as the Plextalk above.

Perhaps the easiest thing is to use your pone through WiFi?

Hi

I know this may be slightly off topic but I would like some tips please. I have
recently moved to a different and better flat for me health wise in the
supported living facility where I live. the only problem is that the dab and fm
radio and mobile phone signal is very poor. I can receive it ok but when I get
too close it breaks up, sometimes the signal just breaks up in any case. When I
was on the top floor it was brilliant. In my flat, in fact in all the flats
there is a multy socket with a radio aerial connecter included, is there a lead
I can use to help boost the dab and fm signals please? I like to have the radio
on all the time when I am home. Is there a gadget I can plug in to that socket
to boost my signal? Many thanks

Regards

Adrien

OK, I've stripped out the automatic refreshing. If you want to see any new
items in the current feed, you have to press Control and R. But otherwise the
program won't do anything clever (wrong) so you won't get weird focus changes
and items jumping around. I hope! Here is the program in a Zip if you want to
test it out, version 3.3.0:
http://www.webbie.org.uk/rssnewsreader/RSSNewsReader.3.3.0.zip

I've also cleaned up the random title entry.

Independent works for me. Yeah, the Guardian has changed URL. I've changed the
default file, but your retained library will be wrong.
Here is the new URL if that helps:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/rss

I'll update the installer if I hear it's good, or otherwise when I get round to
it. Thanks!

Fab, thanks. I think the problems stem from trying to be too clever,
and show the unread item counts. This means that I've got the program
both displaying and updating your current feed, and also all the other
feeds, and it's getting confused.

I think the best thing is to strip out the background work. I could
put in a "get everything" function which goes gets all the items, but
by default you'll have to select a feed to find its current items. So
it's simpler and more reliable.

Cheers,
Alasdair

Problems with this version so far are:

1.  Deleting any feed results in a lot of the other feeds 'losing'
the number of articles shown in brackets in (what I assume) is the
left list-control, the list of feeds.

2.  Highlighted article regularly jumps back to top of list losing
where I have got to down the list of articles for a feed.

3.  One feed, The Independent, shows a number of articles in brackets
but the right list control never opens when return is pressed.

4. Guardian World News now shows a 404 but I guess the RSS feed URL
may have changed.

5. Feeds seem to randomly show a title entry at the top of the list
of articles, sometimes it's there, sometimes not.

The most annoying of these is the moving of the selected article back
to the top.  I guess this happens when a new article is added.  Very annoying.
