Hi Amro
I think you are indeed on the right track here. I
hesitate to disagree with such well respected
people as Steve and George, but I have found
cCleaner extremely useful in the past and used it
only the other days to great effect on a friend's
machine. What I completely agree with is that, if
you don't know anything about your computer, you
probably shouldn't be using cCleaner just in the
same way that you shouldn't start messing about
with your car's engine if you don't know what
you're doing. Both actions are likely to end badly.
I haven't read what Which says, but cCleaner has
been around for a long time and I think it's
pretty well respected among people who work with computers a lot.
Certainly, the idea of manually going through a
Windows registry to remove everything that might
no longer be required would not only be daunting
but would take a really long time as the registry has thousands of entries!

Thanks, Steve, for the offer, but luckily, I donât have issues at present. But back to what you said, and please correct me if Iâm off the mark, if the best way of cleaning the registry is manually, then CCleaner would be quite helpful, because one can use it to scan for potential issues as a first step, and then decide manually which ones to delete and which to ignore, provides that one knows what they are doing of course! Am I on the right track?
Best,
Amro

I wouldnât say not necessary, but the best way to do it is manually.
Even with Windows 10, when you uninstall some programs, they leave crap behind in the registry.

Steve,
I thought it was not necessary with Windows 10?

Hi George,
I speak from bitter experience. I have had customers run it, and muggins here had to clean up the mess that it made.

I have to agree with Steve here. And whatâs more, the Consumers Association (Which? Computer Magazine) even agree with Steve. (ð)
I understand their concerns as it basically works by editing your Registry, which is an extremely sensitive area.

Donât use it. It causes more problems than it solves. Thatâs my opinion anyway.
