Hi Andy.

The trick is to use shift & right arrow to move the start marker and after each
keystroke, press spacebar to now hear where the marker is. When you're close
to where you want to make the edit, there's an option in the view menu to zoom
in and out which has the effect of making the shift & right arrow movements
smaller in time periods so you can get very accurate with your edit. Again,
press spacebar after each time you use the shift & right arrow keystroke to
hear where the start marker or end marker is.

Think of this as selecting a block of text in microsoft word. When you're
ready to save, make sure you choose the right option. Save will just save the
whole file again with no change. I think you may have done this according to
one of your earlier posts. Save selection is a different option in the file
menu which saves the selected part of the file between your start and end
marker.

It's a piece of cake once you've done it a couple of times and you can get
really accurate results. I use this all of the time when making fine edits and
it's the same process for either trimming, fading in and out and adding effects.

Regards.

Terry - when I use shift and right arrow, JAWS just says "selected" without
giving any time reading. Peter's way is more accurate and would save you having
to "count in your head" as you could just let the file start, and when you get
to the end of the bit you want to trim, just press the left bracket, then CTRL
t, and that front bit will have been chopped off! -

    Hi Andy

Actually, the key combination is shift and right arrow, and not control and
right arrow.

Alternatively, use shift + right arrow to move the start marker to the
point where you want the file to start. Select Save Selection from the file
menu and you're done. This assumes you're wanting to remove a portion from the
start of the file.

If you want to remove a portion from the end of the file it's a very
similar approach but you use control + shift + left arrow to move the end
marker inwards to the point at which you want your file to end before choosing
Save Selection from the file menu.

You could also move the end marker right to the point at which you want
to remove the starting segment and press delete. By doing this, you've
selected a small portion between start and end markers. Once deleted, you can
choose save from the file menu.

You can use spacebar repeatedly to listen back to what you currently have
selected so you can be sure what you will be saving when you've set your start
or end markers. There's an undo option in the edit menu so you can back out
any mistakes and try again without doing any harm to your file.

As you can see, there's many ways to achieve a simple edit using Goldwave
so it's just a case of having a play and seeing what works best for you.

      Regards.

Terry - don't know if this was addressed to me, but will this help?
Start the song playing, when you reach where you want to split the file, pause
the track, and go in to the edit menu and under q points is the drop marker
option, hit enter on this, and a marker will have been placed at the point
where you paused the file. Now go back to the q points menu and hit enter on
split file, then tab through to make your selection, and hit enter on the start
button or split file button whatever it's called.

        HTH -

          Hi

Andy, could I mail you off list about this, as its probably not
strictly access related.

I'm trying to figure out how to cut off part of a track at the
beginning of a song. I've done it before, but can't remember how. Just
wanted to cut off about ten seconds off the beginning of a song.

          Thanks

          Terry
