Hi Pete, when I ask siri to open settings I get the voice I want but when I
come out of there the american one is back again.

hi Janet,
just activate Siri as she is at the moment and say "open Siri settings" and the
screen will open up where you can change the Siri settings.
you will be able to select both the language and choose male or female voices.
