Graham, though we're straying a bit O-T here, must say I couldn't agree more! Birmingham does pride itself on accomodating folks from a wide variety of backgrounds, but the communications issues this too often brings with it means diversity, for me, has its downside. More than once I've come on bar staff who seem to expect me to point to what I want, not to mention bus drivers who can not tell me where a bus is going! Stil, maybe continue this whinge of mine on Vi-gen. Cheers, From Ray I can be contacted off-list at: mailto:ray-48@xxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- Graham Page Ray, I do indeed live 10 minutes away from a supermarket, the dainsburys at WhiteChapel but unfortunately most of the assistants they offer for help round the shop seem to have real difficulties with reading, speaking english or both so unfortunately it's not a very happy experience. I could use a shop like Waitrose which is a bit further away in canary warf, but does include staff in danger of actually possessing a few brain cells or with enough knowledge of english to be able to understand what I want. It's expensive though worth it as a treat some times. Online shopping does at least mean that I can say what I want and at least most of the time what i ask for is what I get. I don't mean this to be in any way racist but I must admit it is languagist and it is a pleasant change to go supermarket shopping outside london and be offered good quality help. In some ways, this is I know straying off the Access Technology issues for which this list is meant but it does explain in part why the ability to shop online gives so many blind people, including myself, the motivation required to get to grips with the internet. You should all do as I do and live ten minutes from a supermarket! Asda's a different story. My sister either gets no substitutes or else a few things she didn't order. Not recommended. I can't see the different colour bags but I always ask if we've got any substitutes and I've always found them very helpful, in fact, occasionally they have even carried the shopping into my kitchen for me. They should be able to see that information from the paperwork, which takes just a few seconds. That doesn't guarantee he delivered everything, of course, because I have known mix-ups in shopping, occasionally; but I think that's a reasonable question. -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx ----- Original Message ----- From: "Graham Page" <gpage@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2007 12:12 AM Subject: [access-uk] getting help from tesco drivers > Hi all. > > This could be considdered off topic particularly if it grows into a big > thread, but I received a tesco order today only to find that when the > driver > had gone there were 3 items of my order missing. > > I rung tesco who told me that if I quoted the prices from the receipt then > I > would get a refund of the money for the missing items. > > I know a driver cannot put things away, but is it reasonable to ask the > driver to go through the shopping to make sure that all the things that > are > on the receipt are in fact there in the delivery? > > Regards > > Graham > Graham Page > Home Phone: 0207 265 9493 > Mobile: 07753 607980 > Fax: 0870 706 2773 > Email: gpage@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx > MSN: gabriel_mcbird@xxxxxxxxxxx > Skype: gabriel_mcbird ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
