Hi Again Amro

Many thanks for the explanation of the coding for the command line.

I inserted your below command line, but get_iplayer failed with the same error
code. Do you think because I have tried several times to run the program there
is a history file which is causing the problem now?

When get_iplayer is downloading successfully is there a message to monitor?

Sorry for being a pain <smiles>.

Best wishes

Henry

Hi Henry,

There must not be an equal sign between --pid and the PID string in the
command line! So the correct form is as follows

Get_iplayer --pid b04mc1hv --aactomp3 --type=radio

I’ve just used the exact above command line and last Monday’s analysis
program downloaded alright. Please note the space between --pid and the pid
string in the command line above. In other words, replace the equal sign
after --pid with a space and you got it.

Hope that works,
Amro

Hi Again Amro

I have been trying out get_iplayer for the first time

I went to the bbc radio 4 radio schedules and located the PID for last
Monday's analysis program which is b04mc1hv, inserted the following command
line:
Get_iplayer --pid=b04mc1hv --aactomp3 --type=radio

if failed with the following error message:
">get_iplayer --pid=b04mc1hv --aactomp3 --type=
radio
Can't locate Unicode/Normalize."

What am I doing wrong?

Best wishes

Henry

Hi Henry,

Basically, in the command line you need only to replace --get “name of
program” with --pid “PID string”. You will still use all other commands such
as --type=radio, --aactomp3 etc as before. E.g. to download The Archers,
instead of typing

get_iplayer --get “the archers” --type=radio --aactomp3

You now type

get_iplayer --pid “the archers’ pid” --type=radio --aactomp3

That’s it.

Here’s what the get_iplayer guide says:

“How do I record a programme with get_iplayer?
The PID method

To find the PID you'll need to go to the programme page on the BBC iPlayer
website and identify it in the URL (web address) that can be seen in your
browsers address bar. Lets look at an example URL:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04n9p9c/the-missing-episode-1

The PID in the example above is the seemingly random string of characters
b04n9p9c. In fact, many (possibly all) PIDs start with b0, so you can
usually identify the PID pretty easily.

To download the programme using the PID we use the --pid command. An example
of the above episode being downloaded in this fashion would be:

get_iplayer --pid=b04n9p9c

Thanks to recent changes by the BBC the previous methods used to download
programmes and build PVR lists are broken. However, you can still use all
the other commands throughout this guide along with the --pid command to
specify the output directory and naming structure etc (though naming is
currently experiencing trouble too as it used metadata provided by the BBC
and it may break shortly).

That is all there is to it, nothing too hard as long as you search first and
then use the simple commands above to download the programme you want.”

Hope that’s clearer.

Cheers,
Amro
