Hi I've looked into this and yes there is a catch. Usually you would pay £15 for a 3GB allowance. If you didn't take a laptop. However if you chose to opt for a laptop you would pay £29.99 for the 3GB allowance. The laptop may be advertised as free but you work it out for your selves. You are paying for that laptop on a monthly basis. Infact on a 18 month contract you will have paid £270 back towards the laptop. The Laptop I've seen advertised on these deals is the EI System 13 inch laptop with Vista Premium and comes with 1GB of memory. That laptop is retailed at £279. The moral of the story is that nothing is free in life. Free mobiles and laptops are being paid for by the customer on a monthly basis. The sales reps in Carphone warehouse are throwing them selves at customers. I wish these customers would do their home work before getting excited about a deal that does not exist. ----- Original Message ----- From: martin wilsher To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, July 14, 2008 2:23 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: free laptops? three mobile is run on the three g network, which in my experience is patchy at best. and if you're going to try and use three mobile's internet broadband? well, it's not as good as they'd have you think. friend of mine is in eighteen month contract and he can't get the dam thing to connect. he's got rather old pc and wonders if that's the problem, going to check the modem out on my machine, which is a lot more up to date than his, that's all I'm saying. we'll see if the modem works. what with the vagaries of the three g new technology I'd not touch three with a bargepole. and as for free laptop? what's the catch? believe me, if it's free, and is a laptop, it's too good to be true. there are either high charges for calls, for the contract or the data charges. I'm very suspicious when it comes to this kind of offer. Hope to hear from you soon. From Martin. Hi Billy, As far as I know its a cheap laptop, or 350 pounds off a decent one if you sign up to 3 mobile service. And you can bet its an 18 month contract if not longer.
