If you want to format the drive as NTFS, then you need to copy the contents to a temporary location on the internal drive, do the format, then copy it back over. Thanks. Would this cause any trouble at all? I have nearly 9 gb of data on the external hard drive and I am using it as a backup drive. How would I format the external hard drive into ntfs without losing the data on it? Using xp home. Thank you.
